The rate at which information is spread and how far it spreads has drastically changed with the introduction of the internet. Defamation law has had to adapt to the internet, which can make these cases far more complicated.In this course, participants will learn about the unique issues that arise when attempting to bring a cause of action for defamation for content posted online.  Key topics include the foundations of defamation law,  social media platforms, relevant terminology, and modern interpretations of public figures.  Attendees will learn about the challenges of litigating these cases, including anonymous posts, preserving evidence, and First Amendment protections.This course suits attorneys at any level who are interested in how social media and defamation law intersect in this era.Learning Objectives:

Develop an understanding of the terminology used to discuss online defamation casesAnalyze the challenges associated with bringing a cause of action for defamation from online contentDifferentiate between the historical and current definitions of public figures about defamation law
