About The Lecturer

Maria Sokova focuses on intellectual property, trade secret, and complex litigation matters, representing clients in a wide range of industries and companies ranging from startups to market leaders. Maria brings a unique combination of legal and real-world experience to her clients, leveraging her IP and technology experience and deep understanding of the business objectives that drive her clients’ legal needs.

Maria has experience representing clients in state and federal courts in technology-related litigation, copyright and Digital Millennium Copyright Act infringement, trade secret and trademark misappropriation, and complex commercial matters. Using her litigation experience, Maria also counsels clients on matters related to technology transactions, IP protection, data privacy, and their terms and policies. She draws on her wide-ranging experience to help clients develop creative, effective solutions that address rapidly emerging issues.

Maria’s pro bono practice includes IP, international policy, and wrongful conviction matters. She graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law, where she served as co-president of the Women & Law Association and president of the Biotechnology Law Group, and she is a member of the Order of the Coif. While in law school, Maria also participated in a clinic with the Northern California Innocence Project on litigation matters in wrongful conviction cases.
