About The Lecturer

Based in both San Francisco and New York, Joachim B. Steinberg (CIPP/US) supports clients on commercial, technology, and intellectual property litigation from coast-to-coast. He has broad experience in federal and state courts, including representing a client before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

Joachim has experience across multiple industries, including software, aeronautics, video games, and start-ups, and across fields of law including trademark, copyright, trade secrets, antitrust, and privacy. A native of New York City and admitted to practice in both New York and California, Joachim has significant experience counseling and representing clients in all business phases. He has successfully litigated—or resolved without the need for litigation—claims of trademark infringement, breach of fiduciary duty, theft of trade secrets, and unfair competition. His experience also includes corporate, intellectual property, and employment counseling.

Joachim clerked for both the Honorable Eric Clay in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the Honorable Theodore Katz in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York.

While at NYU, Joachim was named best oralist in the final round of the Orison S. Marden Moot Court Competition. He was also a Robert McKay Scholar, development editor for the NYU Annual Survey of American Law, and a student advocate for the New York Civil Liberties Union. After completing his J.D., Joachim attended the University of Oxford, where he wrote a thesis on conflict of laws and international sales. Before attending law school, Joachim taught elementary school in the South Bronx. Joachim’s pro bono experience includes immigration asylum and section 1983 civil rights litigation.
