Understanding how to navigate the complexities of multicultural communication is an important skill for attorneys to have. Whether interacting with clients or peers of different cultures, generations, or background, attorneys should be prepared on how to converse.

This course will cover how and why conversations can be difficult, and the best strategies for legal professionals to utilize in order to handle these conversations rather than avoid them. Understanding the different nuances across cultures, generations, and power structures will be covered and their impact on conversations and communication. 

Attorneys at any level are encouraged to attend this program especially those that interact with clients. 

Learning Objectives: 

  • Evaluate what makes conversations difficult - especially those that relate to DEI
  • Explore multi-cultural nuances that can make conversations difficult with clients
  • Examine multi-generational differences such as how younger attorneys of color expect older attorneys to communicate in the workplace
  • Assess how power structures impact conversations and how to minimize these dynamics
  • Develop a strategy for having successful, difficult DEI conversations
